Supporting the Language of Kaua'i, Inc. (SLK) was founded in 2006 by parents and supporters of the Hawaiian language. SLK's first project was to provide additional busing for west-side students to the Ke Kula Kaiapuni Hawaiian immersion program in Kapa'a. From there SLK set about creating Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School, which opened in 2008. Since its inception, SLK has been closely linked with Kawaikini NCPCS while also sponsoring other projects in the community. As a small grassroots organization with an ambitious mission, SLK aims to work with all members of the community to support and perpetuate the Hawaiian language.
